Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was a Pasadena, California native. She and her family relocated out of the country when she was three. Summer attended American and British schools and her family was living overseas. They returned to Pasadena in the days before her birthday, which was on 14th September. Summer was five years old when she was captivated by acting and enrolled in her first acting class. Nine months later, Summer signed with an agent and an agent and started to pursue her dream full-time. She is enrolled in college in weekends, and works to earn her degree. Named one of the "Ten Actors To Watch" by Variety (2007). Nominated for Best Actress – Spirit Award. Bishil began to take acting lessons when she was 14. Within one year Bishil was offered an agreement by a manager or agency. Bishil's first performance was on the brief-lived Nickelodeon television show Just for Kicks, followed by appearances on a variety of other children's shows.Bishil's first big break came when she played the lead character in Alan Ball's film Towelhead in 2007 as an adaptation of the novel of the same title. Dana Stevens, a Slate critic, stated that "Her performance in a movie which, for all its good intentions feels thoroughly phony as well as embarrassing and like an extended PSA about inappropriate touching is the most truthful thing." Bob Strauss writes for many Los Angeles newspapers and states that Bishil "...is one of the best natural film actresses of all time. Gary Goldstein in a September 12 Los Angeles Times review of the movie Towelhead and stated that "...newcomer Summer Bishil turns in a gutsy, quietly captivating performance as Jasira. She filmed Wayne Kramer’s Crossing Over project in 2009 with Harrison Ford and Ray Liotta. Jay Reiner of the Associated Press liked her portrayal. She was selected to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan's 2010 film The Last Airbender, and was planned to be the focus of the unproduced but planned sequel.
